What a producer I have for you today! Please aid me in welcoming the young yet brilliantly talented Pierre-Vincent Girardin into our portfolio. With a host of vineyards at his fingertips Pierre has created a large range of top quality wines that we are thrilled to share with you.
I have seen many young winemakers build up their reputation with the inherited family vineyards, but none quite so young as Pierre-Vincent. As a 13th generation Burgundian winemaker, he grew up among the vines in his father’s Domaine learning the family traditions from a very young age. Enamoured by the world of winemaking, his father, Vincent Girardin, made sure to hold onto a select few parcels when Domaine Vincent Girardin was sold in 2012. Les Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet, the parcel from which Pierre learnt all his viticulture knowledge sits close to his heart. These 4.5 hectares of vines became the platform for Pierre-Vincent to spring off and bring his own label to fruition in 2017 at the tender age of 21.
The Girardin family contacts brought him access to top growers who share his philosophies in the vineyard, expanding his reach of terroirs including Pommard "Rugiens", Pommard "Grand Epenots", Vosne-Romanée "Les Suchots", Corton-Charlemagne, as well as Grand Cru Montrachet. I admire his acute focus on organic viticulture and the way he completely looks after the vineyards in Pommard and Vosne-Romanée as though they were his own even though he only contracts the grapes from them.
As a young gun he pushes the boundaries of tradition by not only working with the Lunar calendar to enhance the biodynamic practices, but coming up with unique concepts of raising trellises rather than pruning leaves off his vines (to encourage photosynthesis without clipping the vines). The choice to commission custom barrels of 456L from Tonnellerie François Frères, Pierre-Vincent has been able to hone his Chardonnays into a distinct Pierre Girardin style by reducing the new wood influence. He further highlights the terroir in his reds by performing little to no pigeage after a long and gentle press. With no filtration or fining after ageing in traditional Burgundy barrels, he allows every drinker to enjoy the raw elements of Burgundy in every pour.
Championing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Pierre-Vincent wines are celebrated for their cellaring potential. His Chardonnays are a vivid yellow hue with citrus aromas, floral flavours, and some stunningly bright acidity. With the Pinot Noirs filling the nose with floral notes, and spices and capturing a long finish.
Don't delay in purchasing some bottles for yourself, they are already incredibly popular and for good reason.
