Founder and Director of Clos Cachet
Alex was born in Meursault, Burgundy, to fifth-generation vignerons. His family Domaine, Domaine Rougeot, consistently produces exceptional wines from renowned appellations including Meursault-Charmes, Pommard, Volnay-Santenots and Saint-Romain. He compliments his extensive experience in the field with a degree from Burgundy Wine University and a Masters in Wine Marketing and Management from the Bordeaux International Wine Institute. His management experience includes key roles across the United States, China and Australia.
Since arriving downunder, Alex has acquired ten years of experience in the Australian wine market. Driven by his passion for the wines of his motherland, and his new found love of Australia, he launched Clos Cachet in 2014. The business embodies his values of respect for people, craft and the environment, and shares his tireless passion, knowledge and unique access to the finest French wines. The company now imports and distributes an enviable list of over 30 French, family owned, artisan fine wines and supplies Australia’s top restaurants, multiple independent retailers and discerning private consumers.
Alex takes great pride in his sourcing process, achieved through extensive travel, meeting growers, learning their art and building strong personal relationships. This approach has built a folio that includes iconic growers including Coche-Dury, Pétrus, Henri Boillot, Hudelot-Noellat, Philippe Alliet, Jean-Luc Jamet and Pierre Paillard.
In 2020 Alex launched Le Club, a monthly French wine subscription service for all wine lovers. It continues his vision to share his knowledge and passion of French wine and supplies diverse subscribers and buyers with exquisite French wines, expert tasting videos, tasting notes and matched recipes from top Australian chefs with flair, humour and a unique market presence.
