Alex's Profile
Alexandre Rougeot, Founder and Director of Clos Cachet
Alexandre Rougeot’s story is somewhat of a wine fairytale. Born in Meursault, Burgundy, to fifth-generation vignerons, he grew up witnessing the thrill and challenge of winemaking firsthand, and soon developed a deep passion for its natural processes. Of course he also fell in love with the final product. So when the time came, he was determined to diversify his family’s long-standing tradition with Clos Cachet.
His family Domaine, Domaine Rougeot, under the guidance of his father, Marc, and brother, Pierre-Henri, consistently produces exceptional wines from renowned appellations including Meursault-Charmes, Pommard, Volnay-Santenots and Saint-Romain. And Alex is proud to be able to assist his family whenever he is in Burgundy, furthering his knowledge of winemaking along the way.
Away from the vineyards and cellar, Alexandre compliments his experience in the field with a Masters in Wine Marketing and Management (Bordeaux International Wine Institute), and has used his qualification in diverse management roles across the United States, China and Australia. In 2012 he made the move to Melbourne and became Key Account Manager for Craggy Range Australia. This allowed Alexandre to gain insightful knowledge of the local trade and develop relationships with Australia’s finest venues and operators.
As Alexandre continued to engage with Australia's vibrant wine scene, a greater vision for his own venture began to form. He imagined a new platform for sharing his passion, unique knowledge and the finest French wines which he grew up with. And so Clos Cachet was launched in 2014. Today the brand embodies the values of honest winemaking, which is instilled within Alexandre, and prides itself on close, friendly relationships with its growers. Alexandre is thrilled to present, and share, these fine wines with Australia’s top restaurants, independent retailers and directly to equally passionate consumers.
In 2020, Alexandre launched Le Club: a Burgundy, Allocation Only, French wine subscription for passionate wine enthusiasts. It continues the vision to share and educate individuals about the best French wine with expert tasting notes and information every month.
