IMPORTER OF THE FINEST FRENCH WINES - ARTISAN & FAMILY OWNED PRODUCERS

Champagne Freres Mignon

Champagne Freres Mignon

Located in Cramant, Côtes des Blancs, the brothers Florent and Julien Mignon have restored their cellar back to a production setting which has seen their family name proudly return to the Grower Producers legacy within the Champagne region.

Working in the Grand Cru vineyards of Avize and Cramant, and Premier Cru Cuis, the brothers produce chardonnay grapes, with their pinot noir coming from Cumières, just north of Epernay. They are descendants of a family historically linked to the world of wine, wine-growers and owners of some beautiful plots of land in the most suitable municipalities of the Cote des Blancs. Their great grandfather originally produced champagne, yet further down the line the domaine ceased production and continuing only to sell the grapes to other négociant producers. The brothers, with help from their father, rearranged their cellar to allow them to restart their own production of Champagne wine.

Man pumping wine into barrels in Champagne Freres Mignon

In 2014, brothers Florent and Julien Mignon left the local cooperative, producing their first wines in 2016. Working the vineyards largely without chemicals, vinification is carried out with little in the way of sulphites, and tirage is now under natural cork. Most of the fruit comes from the village of Avize, supplemented by grapes from their native Cramant, Cuis and Cumières. Their first release hit the market in 2019, so this is very much a new project, but these precise, chiselled wines already show plenty of promise and are well worth readers' attention. I look forward to following the Mignon brothers over the years to come. - William Kelley - Wine Advocate.

In the winery's philosophy, choices oriented to the minimum intervention possible, with spontaneous fermentation on indigenous yeasts and no practices of filtration or clarification. Everything is done with almost maniacal respect for the raw material.

This first wine by the Mignon brothers is a chardonnay champagne, made of grapes from old vines in Avize, Cramant and Cuis. Less than 5000 bottles were made and a tiny allocation into Australia, which we are honoured to have.
