Located in the heart of the Loire Valley is the stunning vineyards of Domaine Berthier. A couple of years ago we met with the wines of Domaine Berthier, and found beautiful organically grown grapes from Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé and Coteau du Giennois appellations.
“Built on a combination of history, intuition and emotion… our wines have one sole aim: to bring you endless drinking enjoyment”
The Berthier family has been living in the Central Loire region for several generations. Now run by Clément and Florian, their international experience has been distilled into their fine and very affordable French wine. Clément, previously a cellar master in the USA, is responsible for vinification and sales at the Domaine. Florian, experienced in Burgundy and New Zealand wines, is in charge of the work in the vineyards.
Since 2015, they have been developing their activity in the North of the Coteaux du Giennois appellation, in the village of Beaulieu sur Loire. With new expansions thanks to new partnerships with talented wine growers in the Central Loire area such as Pouilly-Fumé and Menetou-Salon.
All vines are grown sustainably with respect to the biodiversity of the land. By grassing the vineyards and ploughing under the rows, as well as controlling yields, and de-leafing and disbudding the vines. Furthermore, there is little intervention during the vinification process. This involves the use of a pneumatic press for gentle extraction, use of indigenous yeasts throughout, regular pumping over for the red wines, and wine protection using the gas from fermentation.
Overall, the Berthier wines are a mixture of very well captured fruit profiles, with a lovely savouriness, and mineral input that really charmed our palate when blind tasted. This is the perfect entry level wine for any occasion.
