Mee Godard - Beaujolais-Villages 2023

Spicy and floral (think violets), this is a very expressive and well-structured Beaujolais-Villages. Only medium-bodied, but with quite some depth and a long, firm finish. Drink or hold. James Suckling - 92pts (2022 review). 100% Gamay.

Mauvesin-Barton - Moulis-en-Medoc 2020

Aromas of black cherries and mulberries with hints of liquorice and dried orange peel. Medium-bodied with silky texture and firm, slightly chewy tannins. Structured and compact with succulent fruit and a lingering finish with some savoury notes to it. Drink or hold. 92 points - James Suckling. 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc.

Philippe Alliet - Chinon "Vieilles Vignes" 2021

The 2021 Chinon Vieilles Vignes is instantly brilliant in the glass. Despite a slight reduction, it offers up aromas of blueberries, cassis, flowers, violet, rose petals and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, layered and structured, it’s seamless and enveloping with powdery tannins and delicate notes of violet and blueberries on the finish. It's approachable now but also built to evolve with grace. 91+ points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate. 100% Cabernet Franc.

Domaine Rougeot - Bourgogne Passetoutgrain "Vercherres" Nature 2022

Supplies of the Vercherres cuvée are so rare that Pierre-Henri had to unlock a cupboard to extract one of his remaining bottles. Glorious crimson in colour, with such an extraordinary, explosive nose with a wealth of pinot fruit and then some slightly more rugged gamay energy behind. Maybe a fraction more acrid in 2021 than in the last few years. Drink from 2022-2024. 33% Gamay, 66% Pinot Noir.

Domaine Sparr - Pinot Noir "Carpe Diem" 2022

Complex floral and rooty nose. This medium-bodied pinot noir is not enormously concentrated, but has wonderful textural complexity and finely-nuanced sour cherry fruit. Cranberry freshness at the crisp and delicate finish. A cuvee of wines from the Altenbourg and Rosenberg sites. Matured in Stockinger barrels with 0% new oak. Drink or hold. 91pts, James Suckling. 100% Pinot Noir.

Domaine des Ardoisieres - Argile Red 2022

The bouquet has an exotic complexity, leaping out of the glass with violets, spicy red fruits, pomegranates and rich iron minerals. The inclusion of mondeuse brings more depth and complexity, with added spiciness, and more structure to the palate. This offers an exciting aromatic range – violet, pomegranate, spicy red fruits and a very irony, stony mineral flecked palate. Drink now with a 30-minute decant before serving or keep until 2030+. 65% Gamay, 25% Mondeuse, 10% Persan.
