Edouard Confuron - Vosne-Romanée ‘Hautes-Maizieres’ 2024
The Hautes-Maizieres is a fine mid purple, with lots of energy on the nose, a classical central Vosne.
Edouard Confuron hails from the 6 generation family Domaine, Confuron-Gindre, located on Rue de La Tâche. While working with his father, François Confuron-Gindre, he has slowly – and successfully, created his own distinct style of wines now presented through his own micro-domaine. The 2021 vintage is the first formal representation of Edouard's personal range of wines. The vines for this cuvee sit just below “Les Suchots” and Grand Cru “Echezeaux”, and right beside Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, with the average age of vines 60 years.
Mid crimson ruby. Softer on the approach, slightly fatter red fruit, not quite the precision but more volume. Strawberry, raspberry and cherry, with the pepper only at the finish along with a more saline note. Fills the mouth very nicely. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2025. 89-92 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
(from a .18 ha parcel; vinified with no sulfur). Here the expressive nose isn’t quite as ripe as that of the Pré de la Folie but it’s more elegant with its combination of red cherry, anise and a more discreet application of wood as well as just a suggestion of volatile acidity. The super-sleek, delicious and vibrant flavors are not quite as concentrated though they still manage to display more powerful on the impressively long finale. I would add that the VA isn’t likely to bother anyone who isn’t very sensitive to it. 87-90 points - Allen Meadows, Burghound.
100% Pinot Noir.
