Tasting Notes

This rare Marsannay white is complex and fresh.

Domaine Marc Roy is an impressive Domaine of only four hectares. Their wines are arguably the most accomplished of the village appellation. This is the only white wine of the range from the Domaine. The Chardonnay plot only produces 2,000 bottles from half a hectare of vineyard and there are only three producers of white “Champs Perdrix” in Marsannay. Indeed, it is a rather unique and rare wine that receives the uncompromising detailed work of Alexandrine Roy.

Softly exotic aromas include those of melon, citrus confit and poached apple. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the lightly stony middle weight flavours that conclude in a very dry and lingering if mildly rustic finale. To enjoy young for its refreshing fruit and clean finish. 88 points - Allen Meadows, Burghound.

It can be paired with roast poultry, rich oysters, crayfish, scallops and white fish. You can drink it now by decanting it 30 minutes before serving or cellar it up until 2025+. 100% Chardonnay.

"This rare Marsannay “Les Champs Perdrix” is impressive in its complexity, volume and intensity. It has spice, white flowers and plenty of depth on the palate. It is a superb value for this village wine."

Alexandrine Roy knows her vineyards intimately. The wine growing process is regarded as paramount at the Domaine. Vine by vine, the yields are managed to produce only small crops of healthy and concentrated grapes.

Once harvested by hand, the grapes are brought into the winery in small cases and put straight into the press. After a gentle press, the juice is pumped into a stainless steel tank to start its fermentation. Once the fermentation starts, the wine is pumped over in oak barrels with 20% being new. As part of this natural process, the Marsannay doesn’t finish or doesn’t do its malolactic fermentation. Therefore, it preserves a striking tension and acidity.
