This 1er Cru Murgers is muscular and elegant.

Domaine Hudelot-Noellat is an iconic producer in the Côte de Nuits. The style of the Domaine is defined by elegance and purity. The vineyard “Les Murgers” is located in the Vosne-Romanée side of Nuits-Saint-Georges, often considered to be more feminine in style than the muscular Pinot Noir from the other side of the village.

This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru is showing a lot of power on the nose, with some black fruit, a little spice and some earthy flavours. The balance is very good, and the structure – true to the appellation – has fine, strong tannins. You can pair it with a large array of red meat, cooked with spice and/or red wine sauce. This wine is designed to age for 15 years plus. It will benefit from five to eight years cellaring but you can drink it young by decanting it an hour and a half before serving. 100% Pinot Noir.

"I’ve always been blown away by the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Murgers”. The capacity of this Pinot Noir to be strong, muscular but still fit in the very elegant category is just showing me the level of craft to get there."

Charles Van Canneyt, Alain Hudelot-Noellat’s grandson, took over the Domaine in 2008 and for the last few vintages he has been entirely in charge of making the wines and he does so incredibly well. The wines have never been as good as they are now. Charles has a very clear approach when making his wines concerning the style he wants to achieve- elegance and purity. In order to do this Charles is careful not to overpower the taste of the wine made from his prestigious vineyards, which are a tremendous asset. With an ideal location, old vines to very old vines and fine clones of Pinot Noir, the challenge is to give the natural expression of the grapes the strongest voice. In 2014, Charles used around 20 to 25% of the whole bunch during the winemaking. Furthermore, he is only using natural yeast, fermenting the must in concrete vats and the maturation is long but with the right balance of oak used. The oak component rarely shows in the wines, only through subtle notes and aromas. This is a brilliant style of winemaking that champions the Pinot Noir varietal.
