Tasting Notes

This Mercurey Blanc "Le Clos Pontot" is ample and silky, vibrant with great structure.

The estate previously known as Domaine de la Vieille Fontaine, was taken over at the beginning of 2021 by the Corcia family. Alain Corcia is a successful négociant based in Savigny les Beaune, specialising in the marketing of great Burgundy wines for over 35 years. Raphael, the youngest son, is the key driver for the takeover of the domaine and is in charge of both the work in the vineyard and in the cellar. Raphael burst onto the scene in the 2021 vintage, showing his skills through reimagining the method of cultivation for these vines through biodynamics.

Lovely fleshy orchard fruits, white peach and citrus notes. The attack on the palate is ample and silky, vibrant with great structure. It finishes with a lovely minerality, and saline, sour fruit.

From the monopole Le Clos Pontot, a 0.4-hectare plot of Chardonnay just behind the domaine, the 2023 Mercurey Le Clos Pontot Blanc is concentrated yet precise, with real cut and clarity. Lemon fruit and rind lead, a touch reductive at first, before settling into citrus carried by tangy acidity, with enough weight and a faint bitter edge to keep it grounded, finishing crisp with a quiet umami nuance. Tasted on day two, it turns more transparent and distinctly saline. More open from the outset than some of the range, it is a strong candidate to enjoy young. 90 points - Kenna Wells, Wine Advocate.
