Tasting Notes

The “Les Chalumaux” impresses with an array of buttered pastry, ripe apricots, melon, lemon juice and nutmeg spice.

An exciting new arrival on the scene in the Côte de Beaune is Alvina Pernot, granddaughter of Paul Pernot of Domaine Paul Pernot and cousin of Philippe Pernot of Domaine Pernot Belicard. After working for three years at her grandfather's Domaine, Alvina and her husband, Philippe Abadie, set up a tiny Domaine and Maison in Puligny-Montrachet. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels, until they were racked for bottling. “Les Chalumaux” is located just below Blagny, on the Meursault side, from old vines planted in 1954.

The bouquet impresses with an array of buttered pastry, ripe apricots, melon, lemon juice and nutmeg spice. The palate brims with vibrancy, displaying intense green apple, yellow peaches and zippy orange citrus; it finishes with a savoury, nutty edge. It can be paired with creamy pastas, vongole, roast poultry, rich oysters, crayfish, scallops, baked flounder or trout en papillote. Drink now with a 30-minute decant before serving or cellar it up until 2030+. 100% Chardonnay.

"Alvina Pernot is one of the most exciting new producers to hit our shores. From a phenomenal winemaking family, her style is precise, elegant and delicately reductive."

Alvina and her husband favour earlier-picked fruit and higher-altitude parcels within the large Pernot holdings. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels mainly from François Frères, until they were racked for bottling.
