Alvina Pernot - Corton-Charlemagne 2021
An exciting new arrival on the scene in the Côte de Beaune is Alvina Pernot, granddaughter of Paul Pernot of Domaine Paul Pernot and cousin of Philippe Pernot of Domaine Pernot Belicard. After working for three years at her grandfather's Domaine, Alvina and her husband, Philippe Abadie, set up a tiny Domaine and Maison in Puligny-Montrachet. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels, until they were racked for bottling. Within the Pernot holdings, Alvina and her husband favor earlier-picked fruit. This Corton-Charlemagne is part of an exchange with another grower.
From the Pernand side. Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet is quite backward but does show typicity of the appellation. Racy apples and lemons, the requisite mineral touch, poised ripeness, with some length. Once again, a stylish approach to vinification (no battonage) and elevage. One barrel. Drink from 2027-2033. 94pts, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. 100% Chardonnay.
