Domaine Henri Boillot - Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2022
The 1er cru "Les Genevrières" is all class, zen-like with great stuffing.
In his generation, Henri Boillot has dramatically increased the quality of his Domaine wines and created a boutique négoce listed among the very best of the region. Today, the wines, created by Henri’s talent, display such a high level of detail and complexity that it is fair to say that they are among the very best representatives of Burgundy. The premier cru “Les Genevrières” vineyard is located to the North of the mighty premier cru “Les Perrières” and South of “Les Poruzots”. This is arguably Meursault’s best premier cru vineyard or at least just below “Les Perrières”.
The bouquet is Zen-like yet very complex and with plenty of pedigree. A light iodine scent makes room for subtle tones of minerality, green apple, tangerine and white pepper. The palate shows concentration with mineral-like flavours for a delicate and long finish. It can be paired with lobster, foie gras, roast poultry and charcuterie. It will benefit from one to two years of cellaring and can be kept up until 2028+.
A bright yellow with a green streak. First up the nose suggests opulence more than the finesse of Genevrières, and the oak shines through, but there is a fine linear intensity behind and the herbal notes of this vineyard resurface. Exceptional persistence, over and above the others. Drink from 2030-2037. 93-96 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
100% Chardonnay.
- What we say
- Technical notes
"The “Les Genevrières” excels at every level. The balance, the finesse and vibrancy make it one of the greatest whites of Henri Boillot’s range. This is another must have in your cellar."
At Domaine Henri Boillot, the work done in the vineyard is meticulous, following organic practices and aiming to achieve very low yields to naturally concentrate the fruit. The grapes are sorted in the vineyard and harvested by hand. Arriving at the Domaine, the grapes are sorted again and then traditional practices are used to make the wine. However, Henri makes sure that the must* and then the wine is never overworked. They intervene as little as possible to preserve the essence of the terroir’s** identity.
*Must is the term for freshly pressed juice that for a red wine contains the skins, seeds and stems of the fruit. For a white wine must only refers to the juice.
** Terroir is the specific combination of location, vineyard, climate and people that create a wine. Accordingly, different terroirs produce different wines.
