Domaine Joseph Colin - Saint Aubin 1er cru "En Remilly" 2024
The “En Remilly” is a generous, fleshy offering, with an array of citrus and orchard fruit, hints of flint and mild spice.
Joseph Colin initially trained at Domaine Marc Colin, working alongside his brother, Pierre-Yves, to make the family wines. In 2016, Joseph decided to create his own Domaine, and, subsequently, inherited just over six hectares of vineyards from his family holding, representing about nineteen different appellations, to start his exciting new venture. "En Remilly" is from two parcels planted in the 90s, one near the Chassagne border and the other near “Les Cortons”. It covers 0.56 ha in total.
Mid lemon yellow. A high-class nose. The apples have ripened well but there is no excess sunshine. A considerable volume here, with a crunch at the finish, complex, fruit stones and acidity very nicely interwoven. Fine long aftertaste with a touch of salinity. 91-94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
The bouquet is generous, showing an array of ripe citrus and orchard fruit, hints of flinty rock, tree sap and mild spice. The palate follows the charitable nose with juicy white orchard fruits and citrus, pristine minerals and marzipan nuttiness. It can be paired with roast poultry, rich oysters, crayfish, scallops and white fish. You can drink it now with a 30-minute decant before serving or cellar it up until 2025+. 100% Chardonnay.
Technical notes
Only healthy grapes make it to the press; the wines are also handled as little as possible, therefore there is no bâttonage, filtration or fining and no sulphur is used during the winemaking process until racking where minimal amounts are used. Fermentation and maceration is processed in 350-litre oak barrels for 12 months, before three months in stainless before bottling.
