Tasting Notes

The Corton-Charlemagne is grand and remarkably balanced.

Pierre-Vincent Girardin is a 13th generation Burgundian winemaker who grew up among the vines in his father’s Domaine. Starting his own label with the family holdings of Les Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet at the age of 21, he has become a formidable force among young winemakers in Burgundy. Expanding beyond the 4.5 hectares, his family contacts brought him access to top growers in Puligny Folatières, Volnay Clos des Chênes, Pommard Epenots, Corton-Charlemagne.

From the Corton-Charlemagne plots in the village of Aloxe-Corton, on the east and south-east slopes, under the “Cross” of Corton, an early ripening area due to its exposure. Sitting on clay-limestone soil, with little rocks and white marl. Vinified as whole cluster, then 12 months in 456l oak barrels (100% new) and 5 months in steel tank. Tense and sharp wine, full of energy on the palate, with notes of gunflint. Fresh and saline at the end of the mouth. With an ageing potential of up to 25 years.

100% Chardonnay.
