Jean-Marc Roulot - Meursault 1er cru "Les Genevrières" 2020
This Meursault 1er cru "Les Genevrières" is powerful and complex.
STRICTLY ALLOCATED: Since these wines are some of the rarest and the most in demand in the world, only clients with whom Clos Cachet has an existing relationship will be considered for an allocation. All Jean-Marc Roulot wines are imported directly from the Domaine, guaranteeing its provenance.
OUT OF STOCK
Jean-Marc Roulot is nothing less than one of the most talented white winemakers in Burgundy. No one disputes this and nor should they. His signature melts to perfection with the top terroirs of Burgundy. The wines are known to have high precision and tension without compromising on a certain richness and complexity. This wine is made from grapes purchased from one of Meursault's best premier crus: Les Genevrières-Dessus. The “Les Genevrières-Dessus” vineyard sits at the same altitude and north of the 1er cru "Les Perrières".
The nose is very delicate with subtle notes of citrus, spices and white flowers with a hint of exotic fruit in the background. It is very refined, tightly wound with flavours of tea, well integrated oak for a powerful yet measured mouth fill. The structure is teasing with a mineral driven palate that has a fierce juicy course for a vibrant finish. It can be paired with lobster, scallops and a large array of fine cow cheeses. It should be decanted for 25 minutes before serving and it can be cellared up until 2030+. 100% Chardonnay.
- What we say
- Technical notes
"This came as a magnificent shock of pleasure when I first put my nose on this Premier Cru “Les Genevrières” from Jean-Marc Roulot. The depth of flavours, the layers and how balanced it is makes it staggeringly great. Again this is Burgundy white at its highest level."
Jean-Marc Roulot buys the grapes and manages the harvest date to make sure the grapes retain a high level of acidity. It is Jean-Marc’s signature to pick at this stage. Afterwards, the press is a key period of the process where his magic is worked. The aim is to extract slowly, but also to make sure that it’s gentle enough to avoid getting drying extracts. The maturation is done in French oak barrels, with about 20% new oak. During the extensive maturation of about 18 months (12 months in barrels and 6 months in a stainless tank), Jean-Marc makes sure that the cellar is wet enough to work on a certain reduction. Topping up is done every week to ensure the wine doesn’t oxidise. The wine was bottled in spring 2019 (France) and released in October 2019.
