Domaine Confuron-Gindre - Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Brulees" 2023
This Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Brulees" is a powerhouse of the appellation with a fine nose and fresh red fruit.
Domaine Confuron-Gindre was established six generations ago in Vosne-Romanée and is located on Rue de La Tâche. A great sign! Though they don't own the monopoly of La Tâche (Domaine Romanée-Conti does), François Confuron-Gindre owns a myriad of ideally located vineyards in Vosne-Romanée and a smattering in Nuits-St-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin. The Domaine accounts for 11 hectares, with five village wines, across the aforementioned villages; four Premier Crus in Vosne-Romanée; and the one Grand Cru from Échezeaux. A blessing, considering Vosne-Romanée is the Holy Grail for Pinot Noir lovers. The Domaine has been under the radar for quite some time, but since Edouard, Francois's son, is gradually taking over, the word is now out.
The plot Les Brulées is a very interesting climat to work, it is located in the Combe Brulées. “Combe being the name expressing a small closed valley”. The plot represents 110 hectares, 70 with vines over 50 years old.
A fine ruby purple. Fresh fruit rather than singed stone on the nose, with some depth to the sweet red cherry. More whole bunches here, a good third, which gives life and lift and extends the fruit further behind. Long and lovely, the most elegant wine in the cellar. Picked last. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024. 93-95 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. 100% Pinot Noir. 2021 review.
