Baron de Brane - Margaux 2019
A cuvee by Chateau Brane-Cantenac led by Henri Lurton, this is a bold Bordeaux crafted from fine Margaux grapes. Renowned for producing wines of remarkable elegance and finesse, this 75 hectares domaine is an emblem of quality and excellence in the world of fine wine.
For the past four generations, the Lurton family has been at the helm, devoted wardens who continue to ensure that the property flourishes, producing wines of the greatest quality. Since 1992, Henri, who took over his father, is careful never to lose sight of the traditional values that remain an inherent part of Brane’s identity.
Baron de Brane is the second wine of Château Brane Cantenac. It honours Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane, who owned the estate in the 19th century.
The 2019 Baron de Brane is the first to use a tiny amount of amphora in the elevage. It offers fine lift on the nose of almost airy red berry fruit, raspberry confit and rose petals; a light loamy scent emerges with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh opening, and a little angular initially, but it coheres toward the middle, delivering tart red cherries, fine acidity and good delineation toward the pencil-lead-infused finish. This is a fine Deuxieme Vin from the estate that should drink well for a decade or more. 91 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.
