Pierre Girardin - Côte de Nuits Villages "Le Vaucrain" 2022
This Côte de Nuits Villages is tender, mineral, with plenty of energy and freshness.
Pierre-Vincent Girardin is a 13th generation Burgundian winemaker who grew up among the vines in his father’s Domaine. Starting his own label with the family holdings of Les Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet at the age of 21, he has become a formidable force among young winemakers in Burgundy. Expanding beyond the 4.5 hectares, his family contacts brought him access to top growers in Puligny Folatières, Volnay Clos des Chênes, Pommard Epenots, Corton-Charlemagne.
From Les Vaucrains, this ideally located plot sits in the village of Comblanchien, surrounded by 2 stone quarries of Comblanchien, in the forest (a cooler area). Sitting on white limestone soil with small pebbles the grapes ripen and are then vinified as 100% whole cluster with 9 months in oak barrels (20% new)and 4 months in steel tank. No fining nor filtration, no punching down. This is a structured wine with great mouthfeel and powerful tannins. Notes of spices such as liquorice shine through. Drink now or age for 5 to 10 years.
100% Pinot Noir.
