Domaine Mee Godard - Morgon "Cote du Py Passerelle 577" 2022
This Morgon "Passerelle 577" is powerful and elegant with a calculated precision.
Domaine Mee Godard allows us a glimpse of the future of the Beaujolais region at its best. It's a small Domaine of six hectares of vineyards, mostly located in the sumptuous Morgon. The uncompromising attitude established by Mee, coupled with very old vines across the estate (60 years of age on average) produces state of the art, profound, complex wines with lots of character. The "Passerelle 577" pays tribute to Mee's origins in South Korea and the country she now calls home: France. As for the number, it's nothing less than her lucky number. This cuvée is made from an over performing part of her Côte de Py vineyard, where the berries are naturally smaller.
A dark and haunting beauty in which earth, licorice and violet aromas are beautifully intertwined. Stunning concentration and vitality on the tightly wound medium- to full-bodied palate. Although this has a very impressive tannin structure, the deep minerality is the element that dictates the wine’s beat. So many savory and earthy nuances at the very long and fine finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. James Suckling - 96pts
It will benefit from being decanted for 35 minutes before serving and it can be kept up until 2026+. Please serve in big Pinot Noir glasses. 100% Gamay. *Climat refers to a named plot of vineyard.
- What we say
- Technical notes
"The “Passerelle 577” is juggling with a brilliant attitude between power and elegance with calculated precision."
At Domaine Mee Godard, the vineyard is grown with the utmost care; organically and with the goal of using biodynamic practices as soon as the vineyard is ready. The yields are kept very low in order to increase concentration and capture each of the very different soil types available across Morgon. A high proportion of the bunch is used (50 to 70%) and the must undergoes a long maceration to infuse nicely. Fermentation is made in concrete tanks and, once finished, the wine undergoes a second fermentation and maturation in oak barrels for an extensive time (16 to 18 months). The wines are then bottled without filtration.
