Domaine Charles Sparr - Pinot Gris "Sensation" 2022

This Pinot Gris is both rich yet completely dry, opening with captivating aromas of roses and sandalwood.

Domaine Sparr is the combination of two incredibly experienced Alsatian wine families, with the Sparr family being in Alsace since 1634, Charles is the 12th generation. Since the union of Amélie and Charles, these two young vignerons have strived to bring to life a range of Alsace wine 100% biodynamic. Continuing to expand and purchase vineyards from both sides of the family, in 2013 they realised their dream and launched their eponymous winery. First selling all grapes to negociants until they found the courage to bottle under their own label in 2017.

A wonderfully atypical wine for this grape. Roses and sandalwood pour from the glass of this rich but dry pinot gris. Wonderfully smooth texture on the well-structured medium- to full-bodied palate. The hints of tannin and bitterness in the finish add to the length. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold. 94 points - James Suckling.

The 2022 Pinot Gris Sensation was picked in the Brand and Mambourg Grand Crus, with the remaining 25% from Rosenberg in Wettoslheim. Gentlest smoke wraps itself around pear notes. The palate is rounded but bone-dry, taking just a little support from phenolics that help define the palate and lend direction with their noble, gentle bitterness. 91 points - Anne Krebiehl, Vinous.
