Domaine de Cassiopée - Bourgogne Rouge "En Gerlieus" 2022
This En Gerlieus has a fine quality of deep red fruit.
Brand new estate in the heart of Sampigny-les-Maranges in 2020, Domaine de Cassiopée is run by Talloulah and Hugo Mathurin who are working hard to make a mark on this under the radar appellation. Domaine de Cassiopée sits on the eastern end within close proximity to the premier cru vineyards.
Still in barrel where it will see a second winter. 55 year old vines. An even, dark purple. The nose is of a stolid, backward pinot. Firmer tannins but with a fine quality of deep red fruit. Good acid balance. Not the immediate joy of Les Paizets, but something with the potential to make a more substantial vin de garde. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Oct 2023. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. 100% Pinot Noir.
What we say
"An exciting new addition to the Burgundy winemaking scene!"
Technical notes
The reds are mostly destemmed, and matured in barrel (few of which are new) or concrete egg, depending on the cuvée.
