Tasting Notes

An exciting new arrival on the scene in the Côte de Beaune is Alvina Pernot, granddaughter of Paul Pernot of Domaine Paul Pernot and cousin of Philippe Pernot of Domaine Pernot Belicard. After working for three years at her grandfather's Domaine, Alvina and her husband, Philippe Abadie, set up a tiny Domaine and Maison in Puligny-Montrachet. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels, until they were racked for bottling. Within the Pernot holdings, Alvina and her husband favour earlier-picked fruit.

The 2024 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a crisp bouquet with green apple and sea cave scents that unfurl in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced, quite strict, fine weight in the mouth with a citric finish. You get the sense that this is holding something back for later. Contained but there is potential for it to blossom with three or four years in bottle. 92+ points, Neal Martin, Vinous. 100% Chardonnay.

What we say

"Alvina Pernot is one of the most exciting new producers to hit our shores. From a phenomenal winemaking family, her style is precise, elegant and delicately reductive."

Technical notes

Alvina and her husband favour earlier-picked fruit and higher-altitude parcels within the large Pernot holdings. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels mainly from François Frères, until they were racked for bottling.
