Tasting Notes

An exciting new arrival on the scene in the Côte de Beaune is Alvina Pernot, granddaughter of Paul Pernot of Domaine Paul Pernot and cousin of Philippe Pernot of Domaine Pernot Belicard. After working for three years at her grandfather's Domaine, Alvina and her husband, Philippe Abadie, set up a tiny Domaine and Maison in Puligny-Montrachet. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels, until they were racked for bottling. Within the Pernot holdings, Alvina and her husband favor earlier-picked fruit. This Batard-Montrachet is sourced from the family, two barrels made in total.

Quite pale in colour, a leaner style, then a bounce of pure crisp white fruit energy with a very lightly peachy touch. There is good intensity if not quite the full weight. I do like the aftertaste though, on pure white fruit. Drink from 2030-2035. 94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

The 2024 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru follows in the footsteps of the knockout 2023. It has a wonderful nose with Granny Smith, freshly sliced pear, dewy meadow and light citrus lemon scents that burst from the glass. The palate is very fresh and focused, with much more intensity than the Bienvenues as it seems to relish the finish. This is such a great Bâtard-Montrachet, possibly underrated by connoisseurs…but not by yours truly. 96 points, Neal Martin, Vinous. 100% Chardonnay.

What we say

"Alvina Pernot is one of the most exciting new producers to hit our shores. From a phenomenal winemaking family, her style is precise, elegant and delicately reductive."

Technical notes

Alvina and her husband favour earlier-picked fruit and higher-altitude parcels within the large Pernot holdings. For the debut 2018 vintage, Alvina Pernot used no new oak, with all wines aged on their lees, in used barrels mainly from François Frères, until they were racked for bottling.
