In a harrowing year for every winemaker, Charles Van Canneyt has produced an incredible line up of wines from both the family Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat as well as his own négoce label. Arriving in a couple of weeks, these highly rated wines (from all critics) will be welcomed to Australian shores in time for a fantastic celebration season.
The plots of Richebourg, Romanée Saint-Vivant, and Les Suchots are legendary, all uniquely presented in their own cuvees, they carry within them an identity of their own. Each year I wait in anticipation to open a bottle of these cuvees and in line with Neal Martin of Vinous beliefs, the Suchots is "one of the best 2021s from Hudelot-Noellat". Along with a 98 point rating for the plump and suave Richebourg, the 2021 vintage has shaped up to be one of revere and excitement no matter the small yields.
In the Côte de Nuits, each wine comes from a unique climat that Charles reflects through little intervention in both the vineyards and the vinification process. Being set in the prestigious Pinot Noir appellation of Vougeot, Charles works with exceptional terroirs with humility and respect towards nature. The Hudelot-Noëllat estate has set itself the task of revealing the most sincere typicity of our terroirs since its foundation in 1962 by Alain Hudelot. As it now stands, the estate covers 10 hectares spread over 4 villages and 15 appellations, with each plots individually vinified into a beautiful cuvee promoting freshness and showcasing their place of origin.
