Camille & Guillaume Boillot | 2023 Release

Camille & Guillaume Boillot | 2023 Release

Camille & Guillaume Boillot have truly found their feet in the 2023 vintage with an impressive 15 cuvees available for you today. Last vintage was the beginning of a grand adventure and this is the follow up vintage with double the energy.

Through their great network within Burgundy Camille & Guillaume have now gained access to parcels of Saint-Romain, Meursault "Les Clous", Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Champ Gain", Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" and even the Echezeaux Grand Cru. These are great additions to the range as the young family begins to build a name for themselves.

With Guillaume being the recent winemaker at Domaine Henri Boillot, and his wife Camille being the 5th generation of her own wine-growing family, they work with modesty and determination to elevate their skills in their own style. This presents wines of great minerality, a strong body but still delicate, precision, beautiful maturity and the rejection of any acidity. "Camille puts it in these words: make beautiful with raw."

I would highly recommend diving into this collection. The Puligny-Montrachet "Enseigneres" is an "effortless, graceful wine, with a bright ripe apple intensity", perfect for a warm Autumn day. Or possibly you could try the "Charmes which has a very classy, balanced nose that absolutely speaks of Charmes". If looking for something truly astounding, the look no further than the Corton-Renardes Grand Cru as "this is rather wonderful, picked at the perfect time, with a little bit of the wilder side of Renardes." Enjoy the new Boillot estate today.

Reviews & Ratings

BOURGOGNE "LA CORVEE AUX MOINES" 2023

Half a hectare of top genetic vineyard material, below Puligny. A light reduction, this is not massively voluminous up front, but the richer fruit really comes into play behind. Tightly wound with a little salinity. No new wood, 350 litre barrels. 13.5% natural. Drink from 2026-2028. 88-89 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

SAINT-ROMAIN "SOUS LE CHATEAU" 2023

Pale lemon colour. Fresh apples and some floral notes on the nose. Fine-boned, steely, some lemon wash, forceful white apple behind, the salinity of the vintage, St-Romain works well picked at this date. Drink from 2026-2029. 88-89 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

MEURSAULT "LE LIMOZIN" 2023

A holding of 7 ouvrees, now en fermage. Planted the other way below Genevrières. Pale to mid lemon, 25% new wood which you can detect but that is the character of Limozin anyway. Some ripe grapefruit notes behind, fresh enough on the palate, plenty of energy here, not too fleshy, finish keeps extending. Drink from 2027-2030. 90-92 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

MEURSAULT "LES CLOUS" 2023

A similar pale colour but the nose is a bit sunnier, and with 25% new wood. There is good depth to this, with citrus notes and fresh almonds. The weight is impressive but takes it away from a typical Clous. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Oct 2024. 88-91 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

PULIGNY-MONTRACHET "ENSEIGNERES" 2023

Their own vineyard, planted in 1946. Tiny little grapes. Pale in colour. A little oak is present but you can sense the fruit weight waiting below. Effortless, graceful wine, with a bright ripe apple intensity, plenty of flesh without being heavy, and a tightly wound finish with good acidity. Drink from 2028-2032. 91-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

MEURSAULT 1ER CRU "BLAGNY" 2023

Mid lemon. Very cheerful on the fruit yellow with ripe citrus, even plum on the nose. Very balanced fruit on the palate, lots of energy, much more than the nose suggested, complex and even complicated. Drink from 2028-2033. 91-94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

MEURSAULT 1ER CRU "LES CHARMES" 2023

A holding of 4 ouvrées, en fermage. Ageing is in new 350 litre barrels, older 228s and a wine globe. Pale lemon colour. The Charmes has a very classy, balanced nose that absolutely speaks of Charmes. The tiny reduction comes from the glass wine globe maybe. Very forceful on the palate, a fine thread of fruit-laden acidity, and excellent length. Just keeps on going! Drink from 2029-2035. 93-96 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 1ER CRU "CHAMP GAIN" 2023

The first to be picked, with enough fruit to make 2 x 350 litre barrels and 1 x 228. Mid lemon colour, quite a refined nose, not extrovert, though plenty of wood, medium concentration. Fair fruit-acid balance, just a little warmth to finish. Drink from 2028-2033. 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 1ER CRU "CAILLERETS" 2023

1 x 420 litre barrel, used again from last year’s wine. The bouquet speaks the name of the vineyard out loud. A beautiful fragrance here, little tiny stones, very lightly spicy, crystalline white fruit, minimal grapefruit, excellent length. No sign of late picking. Drink from 2029-2035. 93-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR 2023

A fruit purchase from below Volnay. No new wood, 350 litre barrels. A medium purple. This is a restrained style of elegant pinot fruit, quite floral in fact, harmonious on the palate, no more than middleweight, good acidity and very persistent. Drink from 2026-2028. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

VOLNAY 1ER CRU "CHAMPANS" 2023

Aged in one year old 350 litre barrels. A fine mid purple. There is no shortage of fruit here. A vigorous fresh fruit with some violets, otherwise more raspberry and cherry, does fill the palate with more than adequate concentration and very good length. Drink from 2029-2035. 91-94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

POMMARD 1ER CRU "RUGIENS" 2023

A solid bright purple. The nose is a bit more restrained – not really discretion but just less evolved. A sense of fruit weight and structure, a lovely mouthful of firm dark red berry fruit, fine structure based on plentiful but refined tannins, and with good persistence. One barrel made of this high class Rugiens from the upper section. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Oct 2024. 92-94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

CORTON-RENARDES GRAND CRU 2023

Two barrels, one new. A glowing deeper purple, with a much more extrovert bouquet, an explosion of rose and full-on ripe raspberries. A little oak too of course but in proportion. This is rather wonderful, picked at the perfect time, with a little bit of the wilder side of Renardes. A lovely and well-proportioned finish. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Oct 2024. 94-96 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

ECHEZEAUX GRAND CRU 2023

These grapes come from En Orveaux, a fresher section of the Grand Cru. Bright purple with lighter rim. More restrained than the extraordinary Renardes but the fruit is all there. Higher toned raspberry, more linear, a fine tensile strength, with precision. Drink from 2031-2038. 93-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
