MAUVESIN-BARTON - MOULIS-EN-MEDOC 2020
Aromas of black cherries and mulberries with hints of liquorice and dried orange peel. Medium-bodied with silky texture and firm, slightly chewy tannins. Structured and compact with succulent fruit and a lingering finish with some savoury notes to it. 92 points - James Suckling. 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc.
TRONQUOY-LALANDE - SAINT-ESTEPHE 2015
Aromas of blackberries, liquorice and spices. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Shows the structure and muscle of this estate. Needs time to soften and come together. Serious. 94 points - James Suckling. 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
LACOSTE-BORIE - PAUILLAC 2019
The 2019 Lacoste-Borie was impressive as a barrel sample sent to my home last Spring. Now in bottle, it has a vivacious, quite floral, almost Margaux-like bouquet that bursts from the glass, featuring raspberry, rooibos and black currant aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with good concentration, a little spicier that I remember and a little softer in the finish, yet with good length and admirable harmony. 92 points - Neal Martin, Vinous. 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc.
BARON DE BRANE - MARGAUX 2019
Lots of juicy and earthy character to this with tobacco and chocolate to the plum fruit. Medium body. Creamy finish. Fresh. 92-93 points - James Suckling.
The 2019 Baron de Brane is a gorgeous second wine. Succulent black cherry, plum, spice and leather are front and centre. This racy Margaux offers a compelling interplay of bright red-toned fruit and silky contours. Drink it over the next handful of years. 92 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous. 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot.
CHATEAU LE COTEAU - MARGAUX 2020
There’s a finesse and refinement to this with wonderful length and beauty for the estate. Medium body. Fine tannins and a bright and pretty finish. A purity and brightness. 92 points - James Suckling. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.
CHATEAU POTENSAC - MEDOC 2012
It has an attractive if unspectacular raspberry, strawberry and tobacco-scented bouquet, quite closed at first, opaque, but opening with several minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe blackberry fruit laced with tobacco and sea salt. I appreciate the finish here. There is satisfying substance, a gentle grip and a classic pencil lead, almost Pauillac-like finish. Enjoy this upstanding Médoc from Jean-Hubert Delon over the next 10-12 years. 90 points - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate. 48% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc.
