Domaine Joseph Colin - Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Vide Bourse" 2022
The “Vide Bourse” displays phenomenal structure with aromas of spiced peaches, citrus blossom, mandarin and honey.
Joseph Colin initially trained at Domaine Marc Colin, working alongside his brother, Pierre-Yves, to make the family wines. In 2016, Joseph decided to create his own Domaine, and, subsequently, inherited just over six hectares of vineyards from his family holding, representing about nineteen different appellations, to start his exciting new venture. “Vide Bourse” is from a 0.13-ha vineyard located right below Bâtard-Montrachet. Joseph Colin is only one of five other producers with holdings in this vineyard.
A fine light lemon and lime. Just a little white fruit on the nose. Extremely intense on the palate, with some lime notes - sometimes Vide Bourse can be fleshier than this - more white fruit further back on the palate. Just a baby at the moment. The aftertaste shows the quality of this vineyard which abuts the grands crus. Drink from 2028-2035. 92-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse is deeper-pitched than the ethereal Caillert, revealing aromas of pear, ripe citrus fruits, toasted nuts, buttery pastry and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and structured palate with good depth at the core and an orange-inflected finish. 93 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
100% Chardonnay.

Technical notes
Only healthy grapes make it to the press; the wines are also handled as little as possible, therefore there is no bâttonage, filtration or fining and no sulphur is used during the winemaking process until racking where minimal amounts are used. Fermentation and maceration is processed in 350-litre oak barrels for 12 months, before three months in stainless before bottling.
