Domaine Yvon Clerget - Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2022
This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is delicate, deep and driven.
Thibaud Clerget took over the family Domaine in 2015; one of the oldest Domaines in the village. The rebirth of one of Volnay’s little treasures then began with six hectares of vineyards located within the best climats* of Burgundy. The vineyard of Clos de Vougeot is located on the upper part of the slope, in the "Grand Maupertuis" lieu-dit. The vines are 48 years of age on average.
The nose is magnificent, profound, delicate yet powerful but without being overpowering, with notes of black cherry, dried herbs, mint and liquorice. The palate is structured yet seductive, pliant and very complex. It can be paired with charcuterie, charcoaled meat, a large array of cow’s milk cheese and roast poultry. It can be opened in 3 to 5 years and cellared for up to 2030+.
50% whole bunch vinification and 50% new wood, two out of four barrels. A lovely mid crimson purple. The whole bunches with their rose petal perfume create a stylish bouquet. All nicely integrated with the core deep fruit. White pepper at the back, while the power from the vineyard tries to take over from the elegance of the vinification. Together they combine in a very long finish. Potentially superb, with an ageing potential belied by the immediate charm. Drink from 2032-2040+. 94-97 pts - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
100% Pinot Noir.
- What we say
- Technical notes
"Thibaud Clerget has revealed a lot of finesse in his Clos de Vougeot, where one can find usually bigger structured wines. The fact that the vineyard is located just below the "Grand Échezeaux" Grand Cru helps with the finesse, but Thibaud made it very appealing".
At Domaine Yvon Clerget the grapes are hand harvested, sorted in the vineyard and then destemmed at 100% apart for the Clos de Vougeot that sees 30% whole bunch. The cold maceration takes place for 5 to 7 days and the whole cuvaison last for 15 to 20 days in stainless steel tank. During the cuvaison pump overs are used as well as one pushing the cap per day. The wine undergoes its malolactic fermentation in 228 litres French oak barrels and then is matured for twelve months. Before bottling, the wine is maturing for two months in stainless steel tank.
