OUT OF STOCK

Jean-Marc Roulot is nothing less than one of the most talented white winemakers in Burgundy. No one disputes this and nor should they. His signature melts to perfection with the top terroirs of Burgundy. The wines are known to have high precision and tension without compromising on a certain richness and complexity. All his vineyards are farmed organically, with soils ploughed regularly with de-budding to keep yields limited.

The 2022 Meursault Meix Chavaux is more defined than the Les Vireuils, with scents of wild fennel, citrus lemon and broom. It blossoms in the glass but never gets over-excited. The palate is fresh on the entry with fine tension, one of Roulot’s most elegant 2022s with a persistent, lightly spiced, lemongrass-tinged finish. Excellent. 92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous. 100% Chardonnay.

Jean-Marc Roulot buys the grapes and manages the harvest date to make sure the grapes retain a high level of acidity. It is Jean-Marc’s signature to pick at this stage. Afterwards, the press is a key period of the process where his magic is worked. The aim is to extract slowly, but also to make sure that it’s gentle enough to avoid getting drying extracts. The maturation is done in French oak barrels, with about 20% new oak. During the extensive maturation of about 18 months (12 months in barrels and 6 months in a stainless tank), Jean-Marc makes sure that the cellar is wet enough to work on a certain reduction. Topping up is done every week to ensure the wine doesn’t oxidise. The wine was bottled in spring 2019 (France) and released in October 2019.
