Tasting Notes

The Vieilles Vignes is powerful with a lively taste of fruit and minerality.

Domaine Marc Roy is an impressive Domaine of only four hectares. Their wines are arguably the most accomplished of the village appellation. The cuvée “Vieilles Vignes” is made from vines averaging 70 years in age from plots such as En Jouise, Carougeot, Les Murots, Les Crais, Vignes Belles and Les Seuvrées.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 80 year old vines. Plump red fruit leads the charge on the nose, segueing into an off-dry palate that offers white pepper-dashed strawberry and Morello fruit. 89-91 points - Neal Martin, Vinous.

It can be matched with charcuterie, barbecued beef and cheeses. It shows well in its youth and can benefit from being cellared between four to ten years. 100% Pinot Noir.

The Gevrey-Chambertin – “Vieilles Vignes” is a meticulous example of a detailed wine. The complexity of aromatics that this brings to your senses is astonishing. You’ll love the great concentration and elegance of this Pinot Noir."

Alexandrine Roy knows her vineyards intimately. The wine growing process is regarded as paramount at the Domaine. Vine by vine, the yields are managed to produce only small crops of healthy and concentrated grapes. She identifies the premium vines within her vineyards and exploits them in this amazing cuvée. The grapes are all “millerandées”, or naturally smaller berries than the norm. It has a greater natural concentration. After the harvest is done by hand, Alexandrine uses traditional techniques to extract the flavours of the unique terroir* of Gevrey-Chambertin from these beautiful grapes. The wine is matured in French oak barrels with half being new.

*Terroir is the specific combination of location, vineyard, climate and people that create a wine. Accordingly, different terroirs produce different wines.
