IMPORTER OF THE FINEST FRENCH WINES - ARTISAN & FAMILY OWNED PRODUCERS

Domaine Rougeot Pere & Fils | 2022 Release

Domaine Rougeot Pere & Fils | 2022 Release

As we ease into August, let us all take a moment to enjoy a few glasses of Meursault. There is something truly comforting about a nice Burgundy on a cool Winter's night, and nothing quite so comforting as that as my own family's wines. Today I would love to welcome the 2022 vintage of Domaine Rougeot, carefully crafted by my brother and father, Pierre-Henri & Marc Rougeot, to the shores of Australia and share them with you.

"The 2022 vintage is proof that Burgundy hasn’t lost its capacity to surprise. How could the hottest, driest vintage since 1947 deliver wines so succulent, suave and charming?" - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Well said by William Kelley, these 2022s hold the perfect balance of acidity to back up the generous fruit this vintage has brought to the palate, coupled with a fabulous long finish I am proud to say my brother has outdone himself yet another year in a row. Working across all our family's terroirs of Meursault-Charmes, Meursault Sous la Velle, Volnay-Santenots, Pommard, Monthélie, and Saint-Romain Pierre & the team have perfectly captured each plot within these bottles.

The Domaine Rougeot production of the 2022s are not to be missed and are yet again a representation of the Burgundy terroir in its finest capacity. Please enjoy while stock remains.

Pierre-Henri on 2022

“Many cuvées – 22 – I’ve never done so many. And that’s 24 cuvées with domaine and négociant sides, together. Only one has been bottled – that’s the Passetoutgrains – always done after 8 months of aging. It was also our second vintage of biodynamics after 5 years of organic certification.”

Bill Nanson on the 2022 Wines

What a simply super range from PH in 2022. Virtually all the ‘entry-level’ wines – and in both colours – I would class as great for their labels – but there’s much more too – bravo!

TASTING NOTES AND RATINGS

Bourgogne Chardonnay "Grandes Gouttes" 2022

Pretty mid lemon colour. The first nose is faintly oxidative, but not the wine underneath. Very fresh apples on the palate, though feeling ripe, and good enough acidity in this cuvée. Excellent body, very promising for the future. Drink from 2024-2027. 88-90 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

Monthelie "Les Toisières" 2022

South-west facing but still very sunny on a limestone base. The youngest wines of the domaine – 30 years old! Ripe but golden-style fruit with lots of energy. Broad and very saline – slowly fading – a nod to Chablis with this salinity. Very good! Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report.

Saint-Romain "Combe Bazin" 2022

Picked earlier but riper, old vines, 42 hl/ha from 85 year old vines. A lovely pale lemon colour. The nose shows a little bit of the wood and also the open style of un-sulphured wine, but barely oxidative. Stunning wine! Enough acidity to back up the generous fruit, with a fabulous long finish. Drink from 2025-2028. 90-93 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

Meursault “Sous la Velle” 2022

Biggest parcel of the domaine with 2.2 ha, in 4 plots, harvested in 2 days sometimes a bit more. 45-65-yo vines. On one part plenty of clay here that holds on well to water another part more limestone. All these aromatics are so vibrant and inviting – it’s just differences in the generosity and ripeness of the citrus fruit – here generous and ripe! Direct and beautifully textured – this slightly sweet flavour resonates for so long over the palate and into the finish. Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report.

A fuller lemon yellow. This has a softly generous fruit with a few of the more exotic musky and honeysuckle aromatics. Drink from 2025-2028. 89-91 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

Pommard "Clos des Roses" 2022
Racked and sulphured two weeks ago. Mid crimson. There is an attractive savoury character alongside the rose petals. The fruit is very pretty on the palate as the roses come to the fore. Not obviously Pommard but a very attractive wine. Drink from 2027-2032. 89-92 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

Meursault 1er cru "Les Charmes" 2022

Fine lemon yellow with a green tint. The first impression is of a typical sulphur free nose, and Pierre-Henri may do a couple of barrels without any addition. Really delicious once get over the no sulphur, swirling the glass freshens it up. Dynamic, very good acidity in this cuvée, an impressive volume of fruit throughout, various different apples, very long. Superb finish. Hovering on a fifth star. Drink from 2028-2034. 93-96 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru 2022

Just below the Clos des Santenots in Santenots Dessous. A broad nose of darker fruit and salinity. A more direct than melting style of flavour vs the width of the previous Pommard. Middle and finishing density to this flavour that needs to open out – but all quietly impressive! Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report.
