Domaine Alain & Raphaël Corcia | 2023 Release

Domaine Alain & Raphaël Corcia | 2023 Release

After a generous yet gentle Mercurey Rouge? Or maybe a vibrant and satiny Blanc? Domaine Corcia is here to deliver those delights for you with his full range of 2023s available today. Hand crafted from 4 hectares of vines across the Mercurey appellation, Raphaël Corcia is proud to show off his third vintage.

Committed to his craft, Raphaël Corcia launched himself into Organic viticulture from the first moment he stepped onto the terroir of Mercurey. With so few new producers finding a way into the Burgundy landscape, Raphaël knew this was not an opportunity to squander and dived head first into conversion of his vines, surveying each row of vines himself since 2021. By being on the ground regularly he is able to react quickly to any changes in his vines and secure them for whatever mother nature throws at them.

“When I said I wanted to go organic, people thought I was a bit crazy at first. But I showed that I was able to make my first harvest without systemic treatment, despite a more than difficult year” - Raphaël Corcia

The result of this hard work? William Kelley of the Wine Advocate certainly believes so. Let's consider the Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts Rouge with its "wealth of fruit on the palate, enhanced by a gentle salinity to finish" or maybe the Mercurey Grillot with its "engaging pinot fruit on the nose, with generous dark raspberry on the palate". If a Chardonnay is more your style I suggest the Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts Blanc with its "revealing aromas of crisp orchard fruit, buttery pastry, vanilla pod and white flowers" or nab a bottle of Le Clos Pontot Blanc with its "chalky structuring extract and a saline finish".

This vintage I am also excited to welcome the first Aligoté of the domaine "Les Potets" which will be a welcome addition to the range with a vibrant take on the Mercurey terroir through the Aligoté style. Please dive into this great offering below.

TASTING NOTES

BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE "LES POTETS" 2023

Exciting new cuvee of Aligote from the Mercurey and Bouzeron regions.

BOURGOGNE BLANC "PETITS RONDS" 2023

From vines planted in 1970, the grapes are grown on just 0.3540ha of terroir. Les Petits Champs Ronds is the youngest selection of vines and considered as the 'barrel of fun'. The plot located at the bottom of Mercurey near the quarry can not only boast a terrain as complex and magical as Cortechat but is crafted with the same care as all the other wines.

BOURGOGNE ROUGE "LES CORTECHATS" 2023

From vines planted in 1959, the grapes are grown on 1.03 ha of terroir.

The 2021 Bourgogne Les Cortechats offers up aromas of plums, red berries, orange zest, spices and peonies. The medium to full-bodied palate has fleshed out nicely with élevage, revealing an ample core of fruit framed by rich and supple tannins, lending the wine a giving, sensual profile. 91 points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate. 2021 review.

BOURGOGNE ROUGE "ASSEMBLAGE" 2023

This L’ Assemblage, only bottled in Magnum from the vineyards Cortechat, Grillot, Chazeaux & Crêts produces just a total production of 292 bottles. On the label, all the details of the drawing have a meaning and explain the origin of this wine for you to find them.

MERCUREY BLANC "LE CLOS PONTOT" 2023

From vines planted in 1951, and a plot just 0.403ha in surface area. This blanc shows lovely fleshy orchard fruits, white peach and citrus notes. The attack on the palate is ample and silky, vibrant with great structure. It finishes with a lovely minerality, and saline, sour fruit.

Notes of white flowers, crisp peach and buttery pastry introduce the 2021 Mercurey Le Clos Pontot Blanc, a medium-bodied, satiny and vibrant wine with chalky structuring extract and a saline finish. This is a strong debut effort from this up-and-coming domaine. 89+ points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate. 2021 review.

MERCUREY ROUGE "LE CLOS PONTOT" 2023

A monopole of the domaine (owned completely by Domaine Corcia), these vines were replanted in 1974 and now produce a lovely Pinot Noir.

Revisited in bottle, the 2021 Mercurey Le Clos Pontot has turned out nicely, offering up aromas of red berries, rose petals, orange zest and spices. Medium-bodied, fleshy and supple, it's a giving, charming wine that will show well young. 89 points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate. 2021 review.

MERCUREY ROUGE "CHAZEAUX" 2023

With a surface area of just 0.22ha, the Mercurey “Le Chazeaux” is crafted from vines planted in 1960-1970. Named after some of the best 1st crus of the region, this parcel offers naturally millerand and very concentrated grapes while retaining the elegance and precision of the field!

MERCUREY ROUGE "EN GRILLOT" 2023

Old vines, planted from 1940 to 1950, the Mercurey “En Grillot” is made from a section of plot 0.53ha in size.

Fleshy and giving, the 2021 Mercurey En Grillot reveals aromas of plums, red berries, rose petals and orange zest, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless palate with an ample core of fruit and a saline finish. 90 points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate. 2021 review.

MERCUREY 1ER CRU BLANC "LES CRÊTS" 2023

From old vines planted in 1949, this small production of 0.23ha of vines produces a wine that is powerful and mineral on the nose. This ample wine finds a great balance on the palate with white fruits, peach skin, and citrus notes. It is both rich and well proportioned.

The 2021 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts Blanc is showing nicely, revealing aromas of crisp orchard fruit, buttery pastry, vanilla pod and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny palate with chalky structure and a delicately orange blossom-inflected finish. 91 points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate. 2021 review.

MERCUREY 1ER CRU ROUGE "LES CRÊTS" 2023

Planted across 0.547ha of land, the vines are from 1949 and now produce a lovely, developed pinot noir grape for vinifying.

Offering up aromas of plums, sweet red berries and spices, the 2021 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts is medium to full-bodied, lively and refined, with powdery tannins and a mineral finish. This retains the bright, ethereal profile it showed in barrel. 91 points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate. 2021 review.
