IMPORTER OF THE FINEST FRENCH WINES - ARTISAN & FAMILY OWNED PRODUCERS

Domaine Alvina Pernot

Domaine Alvina Pernot

With the vast experience and knowledge she gained from working on her grandfather’s vineyards, Domaine Paul Pernot, for 3 years, Alvina has come into her own producing some of the finest wines of Burgundy.

Puligny-Montrachet is arguably Burgundy's most cherished village when it comes to white Burgundies. Puligny-Montrachet is home of the king of them all, the "Grand Cru Montrachet". Prominent families have been nurturing and growing their vineyard holdings in this tiny village for centuries. Most of Burgundy's fans couldn't face the irreconcilable issue of not owning some Puligny-Montrachet wines in their cellar. I can add that they most likely know most of the great producers from this blessed patch of land. Puligny-Montrachet's biggest landowners are Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Paul Pernot. The latter has a granddaughter named Alvina.

In 2018, Alvina Pernot took the leap to start her own “micro-négoce” eponymous label within Puligny-Montrachet, alongside her husband Philippe Abadie. Bursting onto the scene with the vast experience and knowledge she gained from working on her grandfather’s vineyards, Domaine Paul Pernot, Alvina has come into her own producing some of the finest wines of Burgundy.

The grapes are harvested from her grandfather’s domaine, as Alvina carefully selects the parcels from which she picks from, to express her own individual style. The myriad of appellations owned by Paul Pernot gives Alvina an incredible canvas on which she is able to draw her vision, and, even better yet, her talent is undeniable.

“We are looking to make wines with a bit more tension, so for example we chose the highest altitude parcel of the family’s four plots in Les Folatières” - Alvina Pernot

They now have a new winery on Puligny’s Rue de Bois. This is a space for them to master the élevage and, increasingly, the pressing of the fruit that produces their wines without feeling cramped within Domaine Paul Pernot. This meant that in 2020, the Alvina Pernot label’s most successful vintage to date, La Rue Aux Vaches was joined by another Puligny lieu-dit cuvée that’s pressed in house, the Clos des Noyers Brets.

"Within the Pernot holdings, Alvina and her husband favor earlier-picked fruit and higher-altitude parcels, but it’s the cuvées that are harvested and pressed in house that really give the measure of what we can expect in the years to come. Readers will note that all the wines are bottled under high-quality natural cork." - William Kelley - Wine Advocate
