The 2020 vintage of Domaine Rougeot is on its way to Australia and I am excited to provide you with the opportunity to purchase some bottles now to ensure you don't miss out.
Year after year I am excited to see how my brother and father, Pierre-Henri and Marc Rougeot, evolve our family wines. Yet again, they have instilled the terroirs of Meursault-Charmes, Meursault Sous la Velle, Volnay-Santenots, Pommard, Monthélie, and Saint-Romain perfectly within the bottle. Every time I open a bottle it takes me back to Burgundy and the cellars in which these stunning Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs age.
With my recent visit to France I was honoured to show many French wine lovers Domaine Rougeot and talk through all of our traditional methods of winemaking and new viticultural choices to ensure organic practices. While I am not able to whisk you away to France today I can provide you with the opportunity to transport your taste buds. Wines filled with "the suave sensuality of Pierre-Henri Rougeot’s style" are the perfect gateway to France and this sophistication is increasingly apparent in the Domaine Rougeot range as my brother continues to bring new life to our family traditions.
Please enjoy our "gorgeously refined" wines filled with "exciting elegance", I have found the chardonnays to be particularly bold with aromas of ripe fleshy white fruit shining through.
This 2020 Vintage stock release will be enjoyable for years to come, and will sell out so do not hesitate!
Jasper Morris on the 2020 Vintage
Once again, I came away from my tasting with Pierre-Henri Rougeot stunned by the quality of the wines he makes across the board, and especially from lowly appellations. Wines labelled under Pierre-Henri’s own name are negociant cuvées, usually a result of grape exchanges.
All the white samples were taken from barrel, unracked, with nothing sulphured. Later on, Pierre-Henri will choose which wines can be bottled entirely sulphur free and which will have a judicious adjustment before bottling. Because volatility is low in 2020, Pierre-Henri is expecting to make sulphur free bottlings (distinguished by diagonal labels) of Aligoté Plumes, Bourgogne Blanc Grandes Gouttes, St-Romain and Meursault. Most will be bottled in March or April.
The 2020 harvest for the domaine’s own grapes began on 20th August, in Meursault, then reds 21st to 24th, then back to the remaining whites. Some negociant grapes came in both before and afterwards.
