Pétrus is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed wines of Bordeaux and certainly the best of Pomerol. Its unique terroir and the astounding care taken in the growing of the vines and the winemaking make it one of the most exceptional wines on Earth. The vineyard sits at the highest elevation point in Pomerol and benefits from the blue vein that runs through its clay.

The 2018 vintage is one to engrave on the wall of the best Pétrus vintages in history. The dark fruit profile and firm structure is displaying an infinite complexity on the nose and palate with a very polished attitude. The rich bouquet of blueberry, liquorice and violet gives room to a plethora of spices. The palate strikes a stunning balance with a vivid attack and endless finish. Drink from 2030+ . 100% Merlot.

"When in the presence of Pétrus 2018, I remember every inch of the experience still months after the tasting. The wine grows in you as you smell it, and it has a deep impact. A vivid and very complex nose is displaying delicate blue and black fruits with a floral and spicy edge. The palate is endless and dynamic, a true masterpiece in 2018."

The care in the vineyard has always been a key element at Pétrus. The use of chemicals has been banned so as to emphasize the environmental balance in the vineyard. Pétrus conducts a massal selection to keep the strong DNA of their vines. The oldest vines to date were planted in 1952 with an average age of 40 years old. The youngest vines have been planted at a high density of 7,000 vines per hectare to increase competition between the vines, thereby achieving more highly-concentrated fruit. All of the grapes are destemmed. Today, an optical sorting table is used to eliminate unwanted berries with high precision. The berries are then gently crushed and a cold maceration starts in one of the 12 concrete vats of Pétrus reflecting a micro vinification of the 14 different plots delimitated at Pétrus. 100% merlot picked over three weeks, one of the longest harvest in Pétrus history, and 50% new oak used.
