Only five years after taking the helm of his family Domaine, Pierre Duroché gained global recognition with exceptional his exceptional Pinots grown on a myriad of Gevrey-Chambertin’s best plots. These comprise well-located village holdings, powerful Premier Crus and blockbuster Grand Crus. Domaine Duroché’s wines are some of the purest expressions of Pinot Noir in the Burgundy region. The first of the line-up of Gevrey Village lieux-dits is the Gevrey-Chambertin “Champ.” It is made from a plot located in the upper, northern part of Gevrey, below “Les Champeaux,” on the Brochon side of the village from 60- to 90-year-old vines.

The bouquet is classic and fragrant with red to purple floral notes, fresh cranberry and red cherries followed by meat rub spice and earth-driven mineral notes. The palate is juicy and crunchy with ripe black and red currants, black berries, and concentrated acidity finished off with earthy black tea-driven tannin. It can be paired with duck confit, beef and black bean, rack of lamb, venison, red pasta, eggplant parmigiana or lasagne. Drink now with a 30-minute decant or age till 2028+. 100% Pinot Noir.

A fine glowing purple, with a nose which suggests class and quality but does not wish to declare yet. Gorgeous harmony on the palate, so svelte, raspberry slightly to the fore, with some fine-grained tannins taking up the back. 12 barrels made. 91-94 pts, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
