Underdog White Burgundy Pack
LITTLE KNOWN, OVERACHIEVERS WHITE BURGUNDIES
- MARC ROY - MARSANNAY "CHAMPS PERDRIX" 2017 - $105
Domaine Marc Roy is an impressive Domaine of only four hectares. Their wines are arguably the most accomplished of the village appellation. This is the only white wine of the range from the Domaine. The Chardonnay plot only produces 2,000 bottles from half a hectare of vineyard and there are only three producers of white “Champs Perdrix” in Marsannay. Indeed, it is a rather unique and rare wine that receives the uncompromising detailed work of Alexandrine Roy.
The nose shows a great strength of flavour, with brilliant complexity of fresh almond, pineapple, citrus and white flowers. The palate has a lot of tension, with a beautiful volume to end on a lingering spicy finish. It can be paired with roast poultry, rich oysters, crayfish, scallops and white fish. You can drink it now by decanting it 30 minutes before serving or cellar it up until 2025+. 100% Chardonnay.
- JOSEPH COLIN - SAINT-AUBIN "COMPENDIUM" 2018 - $95
Joseph Colin has been trained at Domaine Marc Colin and worked alongside his brother Pierre-Yves to make the family wines. In 2016, Joseph decided to create his own Domaine, and subsequently, he took about six hectares of vineyards from his family holding, representing about nineteen different appellations, to start his venture. Compendium means ‘syntheses’ in Latin, referring to the blend of 7 of the appellation’s lieux-dits.
The bouquet is vibrant and intense with orange citrus dancing around a flinty, chalky scent that is amplified by white flowers and a touch of sea spray. The palate is well balanced and makes a lively entry, offering orange peel, Granny Smith apples and even a faint tang of liquorice. It can be paired with roast poultry, rich oysters, crayfish, scallops and white fish. You can drink it now by decanting it 30 minutes before serving or cellar it up until 2025+. 100% Chardonnay.
- ROUGEOT - MONTHÉLIE "LES TOISIÈRES" 2015 - $95
Domaine Rougeot has a long history of making superb white wines out of the famed village of Meursault. “Les Toisières” climat* is located right over the road from Meursault and “La Taupine” 1er Cru Red of Monthélie. It is an ideal location and the vineyard is south facing, facilitating great ripeness.
On the nose, it develops some complex flavours of melon, apple and fresh young hazelnuts. The palate is elegant yet powerful displaying the crunchy fresh apples and white stone fruit followed by the salinity and roasted nuts. It goes really well with seafood such as lobster, prawns and an array of cured meat, terrine, chicken and roast pork. Drinking delicious now decanted for 35 minutes before serving or age till 2025. 100% Chardonnay.
