- JEAN-LUC JAMET - CÔTE DU RHÔNE BLANC "COUZOU" 2016 - $58
Jean-Luc Jamet is an iconic producer of the North Rhône Valley, home to the best Syrah the world has to offer. The Couzou cuvée of Côte du Rhône comes from within the Côte-Rôtie appellation in Bonnivières in the Côte Brune. The “Couzou” vineyard was planted early-mid 1980s on 1 hectare with quite deep soils on Bonnivières & Champrond in Côte-Rôtie.
This wine has a beautiful shiny yellow colour to it; the bouquet opens nicely with pear and apricot with a thread of infused tea, clarity, dried fruits. There is a comfortable grasp on the attack of the palate displaying white fruits, saline moments appear towards the finish, as well as a touch of honey. The Viognier displays great character and leaves a good plumpness and textured structure with nice length. It can be paired with prawns, roast chicken, grilled barramundi. Drink now or keep in the cellar up to 2024+.60% Marsanne, 20% Roussanne, 20% Viognier.
- DOMAINE BERTHIER - L'INSTANT "SAUVIGNON BLANC" 2019 - $27.00
For several generations, the family has settled in Center-Loire. At the beginning of the 1980s, Jean-Marie created from scratch the Domaine des Clairneaux in the Sancerre appellation. In 1998, the estate expanded with the takeover of the Domaine de Montbenoit in the Coteaux du Giennois, their grandfather's vineyard. After travelling the world, the last generation is back on family soil. Clément, cellar master in the USA, is now devoted to winemaking and marketing. Florian, with his experiences in Burgundy and New Zealand, manages the vineyard.
The bouquet is very vibrant, springing out of the glass with exotic tropical fruits and lime zest, there is signs of white floral and flint minerals. The palate is racy with juicy pears, quince and yuzo citrus with a lingering and refreshing clean oyster shell note. It can be paired with roast chicken, Thai beef salad, pork belly, creamy bacon carbonara and prawns. You can drink it now or cellar it up until 2025+. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Coteaux du Giennois.
- DOMAINE GAVOTY - ROSÉ CUVÉE GRAND CLASSIQUE 2018 - $35.00
Domaine Gavoty excels at creating soulful Rosé that is very refreshing. This complex and subtle Rosé is the resultant blend of three grape varieties grown on clay and limestone.
The aromas are floral and contain restrained notes of strawberries and rose flower. The colour is a beautiful light salmon. You can pair it with spicy food, Provençal flavours (olive oil, lemon, garlic, tomatoes etc) and mixed salads. It is a great companion for Asian dishes. Drink now. Cinsault 10%, Grenache 75% and Syrah 15%.
- DOMAINE DE BEL-AIR - FLEURIE “GRANITS ROSES” 2017 - $41.00
Domaine de Bel-Air, owned and operated by Jean-Marc Lafont is producing Beaujolais wines of great finesse. It is indeed Jean-Marc’s exemplary work in his very well-located vineyards that is the key to these magnificent wines. The Fleurie “Granits Roses” is from a vineyard located on a slope with pink granite soil. The vines are on average 40 years old.
This wine is seductive, showing notes of fresh cherry, cherry stalk, minerality and hints of violet. The palate is refined, with soft and silky tannins. It pairs well with osso-bucco, blanquette de veau or goats cheese. Drink now or cellar it up until 2023. 100% Gamay.
- FABRICE DODANE - LE DOS D'CHAT "TROUSSEAU" 2016 - $51.00
The Jura region is one of France's smallest wine regions comprising just 2,500 hectares. Despite its size however, it has grown a steadfast reputation for the sheer quality of its wines. Fabrice Dodane, owner of Domaine de Saint Pierre is part of a small group of discerning producers, which includes Jean-Francois Ganevat, who push the boundaries, making stunning, profound and complex wines. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with native yeast and no sulphur added.
First of all, it’s concentrated, not reductive, the nose if full of fresh strawberries, melting in different spices and forest moss, honey and fresh wood. The palate is vibrant, lively with crunchy red fruit and a tree sap structure and velvet tannins. It can be drunk with charcuterie, roast chicken and pork and charcoaled rib eye. Drink now or keep up until 2026+. 100% Trousseau. Please decant for 25 minutes and serve in big Pinot Noir glasses.
- LE PETIT ST VINCENT - SAUMUR-CHAMPIGNY "PÉLO" 2018 - $45.00
In the small circle of elite producers in the heartland of Saumur-Champigny in Varrains, the lively, friendly and talented Dominique Joseph is impossible to miss. Fully organically farmed since 1992, the Domaine grows 12 hectares of vineyard perfectly located over 55 different locations. The "Pélo" cuvée is made solely from the oldest vines of the Domaine in the heartland of the Saumur-Champigny appellation, planted on clay soils and tuffeau limestone.
On the nose, the beautiful and elegant fruits give way to delicate notes of dry herbs with airy flavours of strawberry and blackcurrant. The palate is structured with fine tannins for a medium to long finish. It can be enjoyed at a barbecue, with lamb cutlets, white meat and slightly chilled with cheese. Drink now or keep in the cellar up to 2020+. 100% Cabernet Franc.
