Tasting Notes

This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is rich and refined.

Domaine Hudelot-Noellat is an iconic producer in the Côte de Nuits. The style of the Domaine is defined by elegance and purity. The vineyard of Clos de Vougeot of Domaine Hudelot-Noellat is ideally located in the top part of the Clos where the most complex Clos de Vougeot is made.

Racked after reduction. Mid purple, still quite structured though not funky. Surprisingly rich dark raspberry fruit on the palate, correct tannins, light acidity, good length. Promising. No peppers here, clearly ripe enough. Drink from 2030-2038. 93-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

You can pair this wine with musky and marbled meats: fore rib of beef, braised lamb, roast veal with mushrooms or a nice game-bird (in sauce or simply roasted). It also pairs fantastically well with the cheese cîteaux - interestingly, the monks who make this cheese established the Clos de Vougeot vineyard. No doubt this beautiful Grand Cru will benefit from 10 to 15 years cellaring to be at its peak. 100% Pinot Noir.

"The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Hudelot-Noellat is outstanding, showing so many different layers of flavours and it stays very fine and pretty."

Charles Van Canneyt, Alain Hudelot-Noellat’s grandson, took over the Domaine in 2008 and for the last few vintages he has been entirely in charge of making the wines and he does so incredibly well. The wines have never been as good as they are now. Charles has a very clear approach when making his wines concerning the style he wants to achieve- elegance and purity. In order to do this Charles is careful not to overpower the taste of the wine made from his prestigious vineyards, which are a tremendous asset. With an ideal location, old vines to very old vines and fine clones of Pinot Noir, the challenge is to give the natural expression of the grapes the strongest voice. In 2014, Charles used around 20 to 25% of the whole bunch during the winemaking. Furthermore, he is only using natural yeast, fermenting the must in concrete vats and the maturation is long but with the right balance of oak used. The oak component rarely shows in the wines, only through subtle notes and aromas. This is a brilliant style of winemaking that champions the Pinot Noir varietal.
