Tasting Notes

This Chinon Blanc is very fresh, fruity and mineral.

Wine critics have listed Philippe Alliet in the pantheon of the very best Chinon producers for decades. The style itself has recently attained an even greater level of refinement, making this release especially exciting. This beautiful Chinon Blanc is from a young vineyard, just 10 years old, and is planted on limestone soil. The nose displays lovely fresh fruit flavours such as pear, apple and some refined mineral notes. The palate is vibrant, fresh and finishes on subtle spices and fruits. It is exceptional with seafood, goat cheese and as an aperitif. Drink now or it will age well until 2026 and beyond. 100% Chenin Blanc. Only 2,500 bottles produced.

"This is a rare wine from a varietal gaining a huge following as the wines are fruity and mineral and really lovely to drink and enjoy in their youth. It’s a great example of a tightly made Chinon Blanc with plenty of verve."

The grapes are harvested by hand and quickly brought to the winery to be destemmed and put in concrete square vats to undergo alcoholic fermentation. In every step of the vinification, the Alliets monitor the wine’s development without too much interference . They let nature do its job in order to preserve the terroir* taste as much as possible. In order to bring extra complexity, the wine is matured in French oak barrels for twelve months. They use 500 litre oak barrels that are three to five years of age to preserve the fruity taste of this cuvée.

*Terroir is the specific combination of location, vineyard, climate and people that create a wine. Accordingly, different terroirs produce different wines.
